The organisers have put together a list of the restrictions currently in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is simpler than the government one. It must be emphasised that if there are differences between the information on this page and the information on the formal government web-page the information from the government is correct.
- COVID-19 travel restrictions apply to citizens from EU/EEA and EFTA (including UK citizens) as well as citizens of Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican.
- Rules for foreigners coming to Iceland in operation until 18-Aug-2020 at 00:00 are:
- foreigners intending to stay for 10 days must undergo COVID-19 testing at the border and register within 72 hours of arrival. The cost of testing is 9000 Icelandic krona (€57) or 11000 Icelandic krona (€70) if you register at Keflavik airport.
- After arrival in Iceland and after the COVID-19 testing you must self isolate, usually for 6-18 hours, or until you receive a text-message saying your test was negative.
- Rules for ALL arrivals in Iceland from abroad from 19-Aug-2020 at 00:01:
- Everyone must undergo COVID-19 testing at the border and register within 72 hours of arrival. The cost of testing is 9000 Icelandic krona (€57) or 11000 Icelandic krona (€70) if you register at Keflavik airport.
- After arrival in Iceland and after the COVID-19 testing you must enter quarantine for 4-5 days and go for another test at that time at the local health clinic.
- After the second test you should self isolate for an additional 24hrs. You will not get any message if you do not test positive, but you will be contacted if you test positive.
- It is advised the tracing app Rakning C-19 be installed on your mobile telephone. This is possibly one of the few COVID-19 tracing apps that actually confirms to GDPR.
- People need to keep a distance of 2m between each other, but family members are exempt from this.
- Masks must be worn where the 2m rule is impossible to adhere to; like at hair salons and on public transport, but is not recommended at other times as it can give a false sense of security.
- Disposable masks are best. Reusable washable ones are also acceptable, but must be machine washed every day at the very least. All masks stop being effective when they get too moist.
- Avoid hugs and handshakes and wash your hands and sanitise regularly.
- The maximum number of people that may assemble in any one place is set at 100.
- The actions of us as individuals are most important – even more important than the actions of the authorities. Everyone is responsible, everyone must take note!
